Firewall policy rules overview
With ISA Server, you specify whether traffic is allowed to pass between networks by creating firewall policy rules. You can create the following types of rules:
- Access rules.
- Define if traffic from the source network is allowed to pass to the destination network.
- Web publishing rules.
- Define if requests from the destination network are allowed for Web servers on the source network.
- Server publishing rules.
- Define if requests from the destination network are allowed for resources on the source network.
- Mail publishing rules.
- Define if requests from the destination network are allowed for mail servers on the source network.
When you apply a network template, ISA Server creates a firewall policy, with rules appropriate to the selected template. After you apply network templates, you can modify the rules created, to meet specific security requirements. For example, you can limit access to specific users on a network.
