Deployment Scenario: Getting Started with ISA Server
After you install Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004, you must apply configuration settings, in accordance with your business security policies. ISA Server can be deployed in many varied scenarios. This topic focuses on a simple scenario, in which you want to allow clients on your corporate network unlimited access to the Internet.
Perform these steps:
- Install ISA Server. As part of the installation, configure the Internal network to include all IP addresses in corporate network. For more information, see Installation process.
- Deploy Firewall Client software. Although the specific scenario here focuses on allowing access to websites, there are many security advantages to deploying Firewall Client software. For more information, see Client requirements assessment.
- Apply your ISA Server network configuration. ISA Server includes several pre-defined network templates. You should choose the network template that most closely approximates your actual network. For this scenario, you would select the Edge Firewall network template. Because in this scenario, all users on the corporate network are allowed access to the Internet, select the Unrestricted Internet access firewall policy. For instructions on configuring network templates, see Network templates.
- Define how ISA Server caches Web content. Because clients on the corporate network will likely access similar websites, you improve network performance by implementing a caching policy. For more information, see Cache overview.
- If clients will require remote access, configure VPN access. For more information, see About remote VPN client access.
